MARYLAND INVENTOR PATENTS MEASURING TOOL

The construction adage " measure twice, cut once" is useful advice and serves
well except in situations where accurate measurements are difficult. Fitting
and cutting flat building materials, such as wallboard, presents such a
challenge because many plumb lines and right angles aren't exact in the real
world. The usual trial and error method of measuring and cutting, and then
measuring and cutting again, results in frustration, wasted time, and wasted
building material. Robert Coeyman, a freelance writer from Glen Burnie, MD.,
invented a measuring device to accurately measure and duplicate irregular,
flat shapes. His Auto Angler is "patent pending" at the U.S. Patent Office,
and the model has performed successfully in a variety of situations.
The Auto Angler is based on principles of triangulation and consists of
various blocks and tape measures. For versatility, the blocks have multiple
nailing holes and pivot holes. To use the system, blocks are temporarily
nailed along the perimeter of the opening. Then two tape measures are used in
conjunction with the pivot holes to determine distances from a common point to
various points around the perimeter. After multiple measurements are taken and
recorded, they are transferred to the material to be cut with the accompanying
jig.
The Auto Angler can accurately duplicate any flat shape which has one
straight line, and it accommodates different types of perimeters such as wall
studs or a flat surface such as wallboard. It is easy to use and makes
efficient use of time and building materials.
To efficiently navigate the patent process, Mr. Coeyman hired the services
of Affiliated Inventors Foundation, a Colorado Springs, CO company which has
provided a variety of services to inventors for more than twenty years.
